UAL
(Ultrasound Assisted Lipectomy): Uses an ultrasonic probe to liquefy
the fat. This method used to be quite popular as an innovation. It
has shown to be to some extent, riskier than traditional liposuction
due to the intense heat
of the probe.
And now, PAL (Power Assisted Liposuction): With a fast,
short, reciprocating stroke of a suction cannula, the fatty tissues
can be more evenly decreased
and gently suctioned. Still quite new, this nitrogen driven device
(Microaire) promises better liposculpturing by its ease for the surgeon
and gentler effect on the patient by providing a quicker recovery.
I prefer this method because of its gentleness. The PAL system allows the surgeon
to work more as a sculptor and facilitates a redefinition of the waistline
and hips, slimming of the thighs and knees, or unwanted rolls and bulges in
the body. I also believe it will reduce the risk of indentation or grooving
which can mar a liposuction result.
With its increased ease of control, this instrumentation offers supplemental
safety gains and is an interesting step in the right direction towards providing
greater control, subtler sculpturing, and more predictable results. For smaller
areas, it is almost a lunchtime procedure with less recovery time for the patient.
As in any other procedure, visit a reputable Board Certified plastic surgeon
and expect a full explanation of risks and benefits for the procedure desired
before signing on the dotted line!

Liposuction, Liposculpture,
Ultrasound Liposuction, Tumescent Liposuction, Syringe aspiration-and
now PAL? Are you confused yet?
Well, let’s first redefine some terms.
SAL (*Suction Assisted Lipectomy) the traditional liposuction: Allows fat removal
by force using a metal cannula connected to a powerful vacuum.
Tumescent Liposuction: A method of infiltration of the fatty tissue, aimed at
reducing bleeding and pain. Now almost universally employed by most surgeons
doing liposuction. |
