A Mother's Story
Every day more and more women and their families are affected by breast cancer.
Seven years ago breast cancer touched my life personally when my mother was diagnosed
with this disease. It's strange how there is often no rhyme or reason as to why
things happen. It's also scary.
My father, sister, brother, and I experienced many emotions as we watched our
wife and mother go through this frightening experience. After many appointments
and a partial mastectomy, my mother, Patricia, began the recovery process. Now
a survivor of breast cancer for over seven years, Patricia has done anything but
sit by the sidelines. She is actively involved with her local chapter of the American
Cancer Society and has spent countless hours as a support counselor for other
women fighting this disease. I know these women have been forever grateful she
was there. I'm just glad she's here.
Now breastimplants411 wants
to make a difference for other women, wives, mothers and sisters.
It is our goal to support
the fight against breast cancer by financially contributing to major breast cancer
support and awareness organizations. We will also work to increase the awareness
and support of the fight for the cure by others - both on our own websites, and
on other women's Internet destinations. Finally, we want to empower and support
women who are faced with breast cancer by helping them to make informed decisions
about mastectomy and reconstruction should they have to.
After a mastectomy a woman
often feels she is living with a deformity, or lacking a piece of herself. As
a result, she faces having to choose between reconstructive surgery and living
with a form that may leave her feeling like something is missing. We know that
the physical is but one of the many dimensions of a person, but one that contributes
to our overall sense of self - so whatever decision a woman makes, we want to
be a helpful part of the process. If a woman chooses breast reconstruction, we
want to make it easy for her to make a discreet, informed and educated decision
about choosing a reconstructive surgeon who is right for her.
"Plastic surgeons helped
rebuild the breasts -- and often self-images -- of thousands of breast cancer
survivors every year," says Dr. Paul Schnur, past president of the American Society
of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). "We know first-hand the pain and suffering this disease
causes for so many women, and we want to be part of the drive to find a cure."

It is the inspiration of
my mother, and every woman who has faced breast cancer, that has encouraged me
to create the ever-growing breast cancer and breast reconstruction elements of
our site. I dedicate this to you.
