What Men Really
Think about Breast Implants
by Joseph Farrugia
Breast augmentation surgery
is one of the most personal decisions that a woman can make. Yet, the decision
itself is often for external reasons such as pleasing a mate or enhancing the
way one appears to the general public.
In both scenarios, there
is one common denominator women face: the way males perceive their breasts. However,
when one looks at men's sentiments regarding breast implants, they are as varied
as the shapes and sizes of breasts in the world.
One of the primary differences
is generational. A random sampling showed that urban men, age 18-35, are more
likely to accept cosmetic surgery as a fact of modern life than men 35 and older,
who tend to prefer natural breasts. A secondary fact is that urban males are more
likely to accept cosmetic surgery than their country cousins.
Paul, age 35, comments "My
girlfriend was well over thirty when she got her augmentation. It was a childhood
dream come true to finally have the shape and sized breasts she always wanted.
Personally, I've always been attracted to nice breasts and love her new appearance.
Plus, it's really helped her self-esteem."
Foster Ryan, age 45, states,
"I've been with a number of women who have had implants and it doesn't really
work for me. It's okay. But it's just okay- nothing like a natural breast. I actually
prefer smaller breasts on women. They seem that much more sensitive."
Hank, age 28, says "We're
all visual, so the way a woman looks, to me, is important. If I were with a woman
who was considering breast implants to enhance her appearance, I'd encourage her."
Cancer patients are often
faced with choices that are more difficult - since it's not just about breast
size and shape, but whether or not they will have a physical breast at all.
Robin, age 32, comments,
"My husband cried with me over the loss of my breast but now he caresses
and kisses the skin and implant where it once was. He tells me that the implants
are beautiful to him because they remind him that he almost lost me."
Marcy Lubbock, age 29 and
a marriage and family therapist in Santa Monica, California states, "I've
had my implants for five years now and I just love them. My breasts are the kind
of breasts that people actually make clothes for. Instead of dreading the coming
of summer, now I love it. Putting on a halter-top has a whole different feel to
it."
Hunter Luis, 42, states
- "I know that some men aren't going to like it, but a lot of men don't have
a problem with it at all. The way I look at it is if a man is going to really
love me, he'll love the delight my implants have given me. Besides it's about
the same as it was when I had smaller breasts. Some men like them and some men
don't. The difference is that now I like my breasts and that's what's important
to me."
Since men's reactions are
all over the map you can count on the fact that you're not going to please everyone.
When making a life changing decision like augmentation, perhaps the best advice
comes from the age-old adage "you can't please everyone so you might as well
please yourself". |
