Beth's Story

March Contest Winner

My story begins when I was just 17 years old. Until that time, I never noticed breasts, or the fact that I had none. However, at that time, my younger sister, who was 15 at the time, went for a surgical breast reduction. That was the first time I realized I had been left out.

I was about to head off to college, had never been shopping for a bra, and was beginning to feel like I would never "develop". In fact it turns out I would never fully develop, after 2 pregnancies and 2 breastfed babies (each for almost 2 years), I was left with one breast a size A and the other a size B. The right nipple was also noticeably lower than the left.

As I approached my mid 20's I decided that breast augmentation surgery was something I really wanted, however, my husband actually forbade me to go through with it, saying he would divorce me if I got "fake boobs". It turns out he divorced me anyway, 13 years after reciting our wedding vows in front of our friends and family, without any explanation as to why.

After the divorce became finalized, I started to seriously look for the plastic surgeon that could fix my "deformities". I found him about a year and a half later halfway between Orlando and Tampa, Florida, in a small town called Winter Haven. I knew he was the plastic surgeon for me the moment I met him. As professional as he was, he also sincerely sympathized with my seemingly unique situation. He told me over and over to relax, and constantly assured me that I would look beautiful after my surgery. I left his office after my first consultation in January of 2003, confident in the decision that he was the doctor for me.

I then began my quest to figure out how with 2 children, being a single mom, how was I going to afford this procedure. I didn't have to ponder that question for long. When the patrons of the bar I worked in part time heard that I wanted this surgery, they banded together and started a fund, from which the entire cost of my surgery was paid, minus the $250.00 deposit. I now knew it was going to be a reality.

I had my surgery on August 28, 2003. My recovery was better than textbook, pain-wise. I have had no complications to date, and would do this again in a heartbeat. My life has changed so much. I can walk with my head high and I can finally wear clothing I couldn't before. This has been a life changing decision, one I would make again. My plastic surgeon is board certified and has been practicing for over 20 years. He is C.U. Kesh Nawada and his practice is in Winter Haven, Florida
